Trustee and Chair

An experienced executive leader with 40 years plus involvement in the Construction and Building Materials supply sector. As Managing Director Stuart has led and developed a number of National Brands including Timber and Ceramic Tile businesses. He takes pride in having created strong performing brands through the development of people, delivering the appropriate culture and behaviours needed for success.

Having also been a successful business owner, Stuart fully understand transformation across small and large businesses having directed companies from £5-£150M. Given this experience including M&A activity he is comfortable with both internal and external stakeholders and conversant with financial compliance, governance and the setting of strategic priorities. In addition he has experience around corporate social responsibility and advocacy along with implementing high-level organisational strategy.

Now retired Stuart seeks the opportunity to utilise his experience, skills and knowledge whilst giving something back.  As such within the charity sector he is looking to help evolve their organisations, ambitions for growth transformation, and other strategic priorities.

Balanced Horizon provides such an opportunity where Stuart can also apply learning’s from seven years as a Trustee of Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Living in East Lothian beside the sea the three strands of Balanced Horizon activities well match his own personal ambitions for a clean healthy Scottish coastline. In addition with strong nature and biodiversity agenda and ambitions including the restoration of native species to land and water the charity delivers an ideal match in delivering these impacts.
