Scottish Coastal Clean Up
 – Project Leader

kerriesccu@balancedhorizon.org

Kerrie has always had a deep connection to the outdoors, from the hills to the sea, nature is where she feels most at home. Around ten years ago, she began beach cleaning before her regular sea swims and quickly discovered that what appeared to be clean beaches were often far from it.

In late 2020, during the pandemic, Kerrie walked 100 miles around the Firth of Forth over ten days, connecting with fellow beach cleaners and swimmers along the way. That journey deepened her commitment to protecting our coastlines. The following year, she spent time beach cleaning on Ulva, a small community-owned island off the coast of Mull, where she witnessed the intense scale of marine litter washing up on Scotland’s shores. This experience became a turning point, leading her to become involved with the Scottish Coastal Clean Up (SCCU).

Kerrie has worked in the third sector for over a decade and is a trustee of a local coastal group. She also volunteers with various environmental and conservation projects.
